Fall Illness and Injury outlook

As the sunburns, poison ivy, bee stings and allergies slowly go the way of the warm weather, cooler climes and their effects on thousands of kids going back to school have finally arrived. Namely, colds, flus and bronchitis, courtesy of students trading viruses and bacteria like 3rd graders used to trade baseball cards.

We have had a modest uptick in Covid cases since mid-July that seems to be giving way to “garden variety” flu bugs that are not testing positive for Influenza A or B. However, the latter may not be far behind, so keep your immune systems healthy by getting enough exercise, rest, sleep, and taking daily vitamins to supplement what should be a diet low in sugars and high in leafy greens, fruits and nuts.

If, in spite of your best efforts, you come down with a bad bug, we still have the most comprehensive urgent care in North Macomb with experienced, board-certified Emergency Physicians, a friendly staff and a beautiful facility open with extended hours 5 days a week and from 8a-2p on Saturdays. We routinely treat serious acute injuries, including industrial limb and eye traumas, minor burns, fractures, foreign bodies, contusions and sprains. Fall injuries are most related to the sports and work around the house that mark this season of football, soccer and hayrides, bonfires, biking and leaf-raking.

Our equipment includes state-of-the-art digital x-ray, an emergency resuscitation area with cardioversion, laceration station and dedicated pediatric, orthopedic, GYN and ear and eye rooms. The latter are equipped with an audiogram and slit lamp eye microscope. We can administer IV’s and joint injections, remove skin lesions and give breathing treatments. In sum, Village Health is ready to diagnose and treat the vast majority of the Fall illnesses and injuries that you might encounter! Before heading to the ER or trying to make an appointment at your doctor’s office, consider Village Health Urgent and Family Care. We are at 12150 Thirty Mile Rd., Washington, MI 48095.
